Warner Eagles Boys Wrestling

The Warner Eagles boys team enters the season with high expectations, led by a core group of accomplished wrestlers. Senior Lubbock Drake, a returning state placer in the 165-pound 3A division, is a standout athlete whose resilience and dedication inspire his teammates. Diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at a young age, Drake has never let his condition hinder his drive to succeed. “Day after day, Lubbock enters the wrestling room with a smile and a strong work ethic, inspiring those around him.,” said Hume.

Joining Drake is senior Sean Moore, a state qualifier in the 150-pound 3A division. Moore has wrestled since first grade under the guidance of his father and brings a relentless work ethic to the team. Last season, he showed significant growth, qualifying for the state tournament and coming within one match of placing in the top four. “Sean has worked tirelessly over the summer and fall,” said Hume. “We’re all excited to see the statement he’ll make this season.”

Sophomore Francisco “Poncho” Diaz is another key wrestler to watch. As a freshman last year, Diaz compiled a 21-17 record and placed sixth at the 3A East Regional Tournament. Competing as a lighter heavyweight, Diaz has developed a quick and skillful style to counter larger opponents. “The strides Poncho has made since eighth grade are remarkable,” said Hume. “He’s eager to build on last year’s success and continue improving.”

Warner Lady Eagles Girls Wrestling

The Lady Eagles have seen tremendous growth in their program and are set to make waves this season. Returning senior Rachel Torres leads the charge as a state placer in the 105-pound 5A division. “Rachel’s leadership and determination set the tone for our team,” said Hume.
