LANE BEEBE

WAGONER HIGH SCHOOL

You often hear coaches talk about “program kids”. These are the youngsters that start in a program, do what they’re supposed to while waiting to be the next man up and, most importantly, be great teammates.

Wagoner High senior Lane Beebe is one of those program kids according to his coach Dale Condict.

“Lane came to us as a freshman and he was about 5-10, 165 pounds but he worked hard and bought in to the weight room and now he’s 6-4, 245 and a reliable starter for us. He’s one of those guys that if I had a rick of wood in my truck that needed to be unloaded, Lane would be the first one there to help.”

As a senior this year, that program kid mentality shows up when Beebe talks about leadership.

“I think a good leader leads by example and working your butt off on every rep, every play and every lift to give your best while staying on the younger kids to get them motivated.”

Lane got his start in football watching his brother and his cousin Wyatt Hankins, who played for the Bulldogs when they three-peated state titles in 2014-16 and who has served as a source of inspiration for him.

“We lost Wyatt in 2018 and so I wear his number and feel like I play for him,” said Lane. “Growing up in a Christian household we looked up to Tim Tebow and how he played and shared his faith.”

In addition to football, Lane is also active in FFA where he has done cattle grading, shown animals and has been on the vet med team and those are all part of the fond memories that he will take away from Wagoner High after this year.

“I’ll remember my sophomore year when we won state and I’ll remember my first varsity start last year.”

After falling short of the ultimate prize last year, Lane says he and the other Bulldog seniors are laser focused on the upcoming season.

“I think we’re really intense and focused this year especially for us seniors knowing it’s the last go-round for us, and I think that carries over to the juniors and sophomores as well.”
