Wagoner’s Kloe Vunetich – Soccer Spotlight – Presented by A-Best Roofing

KLOE VUNETICH

WAGONER HIGH SCHOOL

You might call Wagoner High senior Kloe Vunetich the accidental soccer player.

“When I was little, I played softball because my mom was a good softball player when she was young and with her coaching, I was able to hit a softball out of the air when I was two. I just knew I was going to be some insane softball player someday. But then one day we were buying some softball equipment when I saw a soccer ball and picked it up and said, ‘I want to play this’. I didn’t really know anything about the game, but I got enrolled and started playing and soon I was playing up in all my league teams until I was inU-12 playing against U-14 and U-16 high school kids.”

When she reached high school, coach Ray Bell took quick notice of her.

“We noticed her talent when she was a freshman and she started right away, first at center mid and then as a defender. She’s got a high soccer IQ, sees the field really well, and is one of the best passers I’ve ever coached,” said Bell.

As a freshman, Kloe looked up to center back Harley Louviere who was a senior on the team.

“I’d never seen anyone play the position like she did, and it really impressed me.”

Through her years of experience, Kloe has zeroed in on what kind of leader she wants to be this year.

“I’ve had some negative leadership experiences on my club teams, and I knew I didn’t want to be that kind of leader but be one that uplifts people. I’m pretty vocal but I’m not going to yell at someone for doing something they think is wrong or if they make a mistake. That’s just not right,” said Kloe who is a member of Mu Alpha Theta, National Honor Society, FCA and FCCLA.

Accidental or not, Kloe has had a great career at Wagoner High and playing club ball all around the country with the support of her parents. She’s had several college offers to play soccer but has not decided where she’ll go.
