For Jackson McCarter, leading by example is at the heart of his football career at Stigler High School. As the team’s quarterback, Jackson knows the responsibility that comes with the position. “My role on the team is being the quarterback, and with that comes being the leader of the team,” he said. It’s a role he embraces both on and off the field, pushing his teammates to give their best and lifting them up when things don’t go as planned.
Team chemistry is something Jackson values highly, and it’s a cornerstone of Stigler’s football program. “Stigler’s main theme for every year is playing together like a family.” This sense of unity helps the team not only bond but also perform better. “It continues to grow throughout the year,” Jackson added, appreciating the closeness his team has developed through practices, games, and even shared experiences off the field.
One of Jackson’s most memorable moments came last season when the team secured a game-winning touchdown against Sallisaw. “That was a highlight for sure,” he recalled. But it hasn’t always been smooth sailing for the young quarterback. One of the toughest challenges of his career occurred during the 2023 season when Jackson tore his meniscus and sprained his LCL, injuries that sidelined him for five months. “It took forever to overcome it because I had to miss basketball, my favorite sport.”
Through it all, Jackson has remained focused on his goals, both on and off the field. “My main goal for this season is for us to get better every day and make the state playoffs.” Looking ahead, Jackson dreams of playing college basketball and pursuing a career in sports medicine. “I see myself playing college basketball somewhere and becoming a sports medicine doctor,” combining his love for sports with his passion for helping others.
Jackson credits much of his success to the support system around him, including his parents, coaches, and the community. “Community support is one of the most important things in all of sports.” With a strong backing, Jackson and his team feel they can compete with anyone. As he moves forward in his athletic journey, he’s proud of the leader and player he’s become, knowing he’s made an impact on and off the field.
