OKAY MUSTANGS
BOYS
Coach: Chad Clark
23-24 Record: 24-5
With a cast of talent that included names like Duckee, Trapper, Tito and Diezel, the Okay Mustangs have made the journey to Oklahoma City for the Class A state tournament the past two years, making it to the championship game two years ago. As coach Chad Clark begins his 22nd year at the helm for the Mustangs, he finds some of those names have now departed but that’s not to say the cupboard is bare.
“Even though some of those guys are gone, we still have very high expectations again this year,” said Clark. “We return our top scorers from last season in Diezel Davis (5-9, Sr.), Chase Clark (6-2, Jr.) and Bryson Parnell (6-1, Sr.).
Davis who averaged 16 points per game and Clark, the coach’s son who chipped in 13 points, are both VYPE Top 100 nominees andwill undoubtedly get the bulk of the attention from opponents this season.
“Diezel and Chase are the two guys that will both be big threats for us. They spend every day in the gym putting in shots and work. Their dedication has been unmatched for a long time. We’ll have an explosive offense and knock down shooting which should make it hard for the other guys to guard us,” said coach Clark.
Clark also expects big things from Rylen Burk, Trapper Walker (6-0, Jr.) and Austin Jones (6-5, Sr.) as the Mustangs look to travel west again in March.
“We’re going back to play in the Tournament of Champions this winter and want to use the experience from playing in three large school tournaments this year to prepare us for the playoffs,” said Clark.
