TRUTH DEDMON-MHS
To tell the truth, Truth Dedmon had a pretty good year for a freshman last year for the Muskogee Rougher baseball squad. He hit .354 with 34 hits and 22 RBI’s-all second best on the team. So how did the name Truth come about?
“My grandma asked by parents to give me that name because she felt it had great significance and she just loved the word,” he said.
Rougher baseball coach John Singler speaks highly of the sophomore.
“Truth is a great kid who will play catcher or in the infield for us this year while he hits at the top of the order. He works really hard and usually comes into practice with a great attitude.”
Dedmon has played first base, third base and middle infield along with catcher but getting behind the plate is his favorite position.
“I love framing the pitch. It’s kind of an art to catch a pitch and move it just a little to make it look more perfect than it was and get a strike called to help out my pitcher. The hardest part of catching is blocking the pitches that are in the dirt”
Working with the different pitchers on the staff is a big part of being a successful catcher and Dedmon acknowledges that sometimes that’s a bit of a challenge.
“Pitchers have different attitudes. Sometimes they might get on me if I mess up and coach always kids me that it’s always the catcher’s fault, so I have to tough it out and let them vent,” Truth laughed.
The move from middle school to high school ball last year took some extra work for the Rougher catcher.
“It took a while to adjust to playing 6A baseball particularly hitting where the pitchers throw harder and faster, so I worked really hard on increasing my bat speed to gain more confidence every time I step in the box.”
Though he has just one year as a Rougher under his belt, Truth Dedmon already has a special memory.
“What was special for me was a game we played against Coweta where I want 4-for-4 and with four RBIs and three runs scored.”
Truth is hoping for more games like that as Muskogee gets ready to start the 2026 baseball season.
