RAYCE DUNCAN
MUSKGOEE HIGH SCHOOL
To say that Rayce Duncan has been a pioneer for the Muskogee High Dance Team would be an understatement as her coach Kyah Fields discussed.
“I’ve had Rayce for six years and she is now our senior head captain. She was on our first team ever to make it to state in the Game Day competition where we finished sixth last year. She was on our first ever team that made it to the Nationals in Florida last winter where we placed eighth out of lots of teams. She helped start our first junior high dance team and was recently named to the All-Region team,” said Fields. “She has a great ability to quickly pickup new choreography and has great technique.”
Dancing runs in the family for Rayce. Her older sister Mabry and younger sister Channing are also dancers.
“Dancing is a way to let go of things for me to enjoy myself and appreciate the people around me,” explained Rayce. “One of the biggest influences for me in dance has been Lisa Logan who runs the Showbiz Dance Studio where I train. I’ve looked up to her in dance and in life.”
In addition to dance, Rayce also plays center back for the Rougher soccer team and is a member of the Oklahoma Honor Society, the Library Club and Young Republicans. She also is one of the senior leaders on the team.
“I think a good leader is someone who lets others be themselves and acts more as an assistant to help them and become a good role model, especially for the freshmen because I know it’s easy to get lost in high school as a freshman.”
As far as goals for this year, the dance team has already qualified to go to Nationals again this winter so that’s one goal achieved.
“I’d like to do even better at Nationals this year and finish in the top three at Game Day in November,” said Rayce.
The talented senior pioneer hopes to continue dancing in college at either OSU or North Texas and eventually get a degree in dentistry.
