HILLDALE HORNETS

Coach: DARREN RIDDLE

16-12

OUTLOOK

After a battle with youth and injury resulted in an earlier than desired exit to the season in 2023, the Hilldale Hornets are back in force with just the loss of one senior meaning a lot of experience and more senior leadership going into 2024. “We just lost one senior, so we’ve got a lot of experience coming back at all positions,” said veteran head coach Darren Riddle. “We’ll also add a couple of talented freshmen that will compete for playing time.” Junior second baseman Lily Beverage heads up the returning starters for the Hornets. She hit .443 last year with 35 hits and did not strike out once which is what you like to see in leadoff hitter. Also returning after being injured a good part of last season is senior catcher RylinClark. “She missed a majority of the season with a shoulder injury but worked hard to get back in the lineup for the playoffs,” said Riddle. “She can hit with power, has a great arm and is a great team leader for us.” Also back is senior third baseman/pitcher Kensley Allen who batted .417 in 2023 with two homers and 25 RBIs. She and junior Finlee Allred will likely man the circle again for Hilldale. “Kensley is a great Christian young lady and team leader who always shows her faith in God in her words and actions,” said Riddle. Seniors Sydney Sapulpa and Emma Noe will continue to be valuable contributors in the outfield for the Hornets along with juniors Macie Mackey, Addyison Sands, Darian Diles, Madison Dillon, and Sarah Chapa. Sophomore Charlee Medley will seek more playing time this year and Riddle will keep his eye on freshmen Madylinn Moore and Brooklyn Crowder. Just two seasons removed from making the state semifinals, the Hornets look like they’ve got the talent and now the experience to make a return trip in 2024.
