Some players aim for stats. Others aim for impact. For Haskell senior Cheyanna Morgan, it’s about both—leading by example, giving her all, and leaving a legacy that goes far beyond the softball field. “My personal goals for the season are to just play my best every game, and even if we are losing to still play like it’s a zero-to-zero ballgame,” Morgan said. “I also want to be a leader for my team and help my teammates in every way possible. I hope to build upon my skills to play at the next level.”
While individual goals matter, the offseason effort has been just as focused on team chemistry and preparation. “Along with summer pride where we workout, many of us play on travel ball teams which keeps us involved and getting the reps we need to be ready to go for the season,” she said.
That work is showing up in more than just reps. “We have grown as a team overall,” she said. “Even though we have lost some really great players the last few years, we do not let it get us down. We still try to improve and prove others wrong when they doubt we can be as good as previous years.”
The bond between the Lady Haymakers is what gives them an edge. “We all get along and are really close with each other, which will translate really well on the field,” Morgan said. “Our goals are to go out every game and play our best no matter the outcome and play for the team, not just for our individual self.”
Whether she’s in the circle or at the corners, Morgan’s mental focus remains the same. “I want to make sure I am focused and not trying to do too much,” she said. “I know we have an entire team, and it is not just me.”
Morgan is headed to NOC-Tonkawa after graduation to play softball and pursue a degree in social work. But before that, she hopes to be remembered as “a good player who constantly put in the work to improve my skills, but even more so, a greater teammate.”
