Kylie McEver has already produced one of the biggest moments of her young athletic career, but the Gore High School sophomore believes the lessons learned through sports matter even more than the wins themselves.
McEver competes in softball, basketball and track, embracing the year-round commitment that comes with being a three-sport athlete. While each sport has helped shape her, softball has provided a memory she will never forget.
During her freshman season, Gore found itself locked in a tie game during regional play with everything on the line. McEver delivered by ripping a double, stealing third base and then swiping home to score the game-winning run.
“During regionals my freshman year, it was a tie game and I hit a double, then stole third and then stole home to win it,” McEver said.
Beyond memorable moments, McEver credits softball with teaching her valuable life lessons.
“Softball has taught me discipline, teamwork and the importance of hard work,” she said. “Those lessons have helped me become more responsible, patient and determined.”

Her support system has played an important role in that growth. McEver said her favorite teacher is ninth-grade Home Economics instructor Mrs. Montgomery, who made a lasting impact by teaching practical life skills while always taking time to offer advice whenever it was needed.
She also values the friendship she shares with longtime teammate Alevia Reasoner. Having played together since childhood, the two have built a special connection as pitcher and catcher.
“We have played softball together since we were little,” McEver said. “Anytime I’m down on myself, she gets me back up, and the same goes for her. She’s my pitcher and I’m her catcher. She’s always happy, and it makes me happy.”
Away from school, McEver enjoys spending time at the Tiki Cabana, one of her favorite places in Gore. She appreciates the friendly atmosphere, welcoming staff and sweet treats that make it a popular gathering spot in the community.
Her faith also provides perspective through life’s highs and lows.
“Everything happens for a reason, and it’s all God’s timing,” McEver said. “I trust in His plan for me.”
McEver also participates in Talent Search, a program that allows students to visit college campuses and experience what college life is like while exploring future opportunities.
Looking ahead, McEver hopes to continue her softball career at the NCAA Division I level. She credits God for blessing her with opportunities and talent, while also thanking her mother for the constant encouragement and unwavering support that have helped make those dreams feel attainable.
