The Gore Lady Pirates are ready to bounce back this season with a more well-rounded and physical approach on both ends of the court. Head coach Staci Simeroth believes her team’s competitive spirit and grit will help them improve on last year’s 5-18 record. With a strong core of returning players and promising underclassmen, the Lady Pirates aim to be a force in their district. “We will be competitive and better-rounded,” Simeroth said. “We have grit and are more physical on both ends of the court.”
The team’s backcourt will be led by seniors Ricki Huckbay (5-2, Sr.) and Lily Wooten (5-1, Sr.), who bring leadership and experience to the floor. Huckbay, a versatile athlete, has demonstrated her resilience after recovering from an ACL injury earlier in her career.
Junior guard Emily Daily (5-2, Jr.) is another key player for the Lady Pirates. Known for her grit and composure under pressure, Daily is a reliable outside shooter who also excels at driving to the basket. Having started since her freshman year, she continues to show growth and is expected to lead the team offensively this season.
Kennedy Williams (5-7, Jr.), returning to the post position, is coming off an ACL injury but is playing with renewed confidence. She is an all-around threat with a strong 3-point shot and a fearless ability to attack the rim and rebound. Sophomore River Shoemake (5-8, So.) is an emerging force in the paint. Having started as a freshman, Shoemake has shown consistent improvement and dominates near the basket. Adding depth to the roster are versatile sophomore Sophie O’Connor (5-5, So.) and post player Chandra Carter (5-7, So.). Freshman guard Hallie Brewer (5-2, Fr.) rounds out the team with her quickness and potential to contribute early in her career. With a mix of seasoned players and rising talent, the Gore Lady Pirates are poised to compete at a higher level this year.
