By the time you read this Fort Gibson junior Brody Hansen may have already set two new school football records but that’s not of great importance to the humble wide receiver. Going into the halfway mark of the season, Brody is just 10 yards and two touchdowns short of setting career records for receiving yards and touchdowns, but he says that’s not so important to him. “Yea it would be cool to have those records but I’m not going to get caught up on them. I’d rather focus on us making the playoffs than worry about records.”
A three-year starter at wide receiver, Brody played through a hurt knee his freshman season but still had over 600 yards receiving. He came back strong last year, and he’s made big strides this year in a couple of areas according to his coach Ryan Nolan. “He’s taken huge strides this year that we needed him to take for us to be a really good football team. He’s become more of a leader for us this year and he’s also improved his blocking. A lot of our big plays this year have involved him either making a big catch or throwing a big block downfield.” Brody also plays cornerback on defense and is just four interceptions away from setting a career record in that statistic. “Brody plays boundary corner for us which means a lot of times he’s man-to-man on the opponent’s best receiver,” said Nolan. His games this year against Berryhill in a close loss and Fort Gibson are two memorable games. “I just played well against Berryhill and in the Fort Gibson game I had a big catch right before halftime that led to a field goal.,” said Hansen who also runs track and is in the National Honor Society. He’s also made friends away from the football field according to his coach. “My three-year old loves to be around our players and Brody recently came to his birthday party showing that he’s willing to spend his own time with our youth.” Other things Brody likes to do on his own time include hunting, fishing and racing dirt cars.
