Entering his final season wearing the Ironheads football uniform, Peter Lee is determined to make the 2025 campaign something special.
“We moved up to class 3A last year and we disappointed ourselves and our fans with what happened,” recalled the Eufaula senior who has spent the offseason increasing his speed while working the weight room to get stronger. “We didn’t do what should have last year. But now we’ve got a positive chemistry in the locker room. We’re working together to find a way to win.”
As a 4-year starter in the backfield who will also play defense this fall, Lee feels he’s got to set the standard by his work ethic. That’s something that head coach Larry Newton, Jr. sees in the 2-way starter.
“He brings his best effort every day, on every play,” said the Ironheads mentor. “He’s an all-in type young man, on the field, the classroom and in our community.”
Lee says that his favorite subject is math explaining that numbers just come naturally for him. He also studies the impact performances made by his favorite player, NFL quarterback Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens; and wants to leave that kind of footprint as his legacy of playing football for the Ironheads.
“Experts have doubted him and he continues to prove them wrong and the same goes for me. I’m going to do whatever needs to be done when it needs to be done to help my teammates find a way to win.”
Last year while playing in just nine games, Lee rushed for 1510 yards and during the past two seasons has raced to the endzone to score 37 times. The 5-11, 195 pound Ironhead running back whose speed also helped Eufaula’s 4×100 and 4×200 meter relay teams qualify for the state track meet the last two years defines himself as competitive, uplifting and a team-first kind of player.
“Being a team player is most important to me because football is not a one person game,” Lee emphasized. “It takes all 11 players on every play to get the job done. I don’t score or gain a single yard without the help of my teammates.”
