JENTRY JAMES-EUFAULA

As the 2025 basketball season gets underway senior Jentry James now finds himself as one of the leaders of the Eufaula Ironheads, helping new coach Grant Callison get his way of doing business instilled in the team.

“Jentry is a four-year starter here at Eufaula,” said Callison. “He’s a great defensive point guard and a good leader on and off the court. I look for him to be a little more aggressive on offense this year and I think he’s capable of putting up some really good numbers.”

James understands the responsibility of being a team leader this year.

“I think being the point guard, you’re already kind of the leader on the floor and so you have to call the right plays and make the right passes to keep your teammates involved. I think you have to bring a different level of energy and knowledge to the game as a team leader. You need to create relationships with your teammates outside the gym and make sure they know you have their back. Also, communication on the court is really important as a leader.”

Jentry comes from a basketball family, so it was easy for him to get into the sport, thanks in part to the influence of his mother, who he cites as a role model for his success.

“My mom played college basketball at Seminole State and Southeastern and basketball has always been our thing, and she knows how to help me get after it,” said Jentry who is also in the National Honor Society, student council, a leadership class and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and is one of the top students in his class. He has a couple of special memories from his time so far as an Ironhead.

“Two years ago, I remember hitting a game tying 3-pointer against Preston and we went on to upset them and win the game. Then last year in districts we played one of the best games we’ve ever had against Tecumseh and even though we lost, I think about that as a highlight for me.”

After missing a good part of last season with a wrist injury, Jentry has his eyes set on one main goal for his senior year.

“Going to Oklahoma City-that’s my main goal. I’d also like to average at least eight rebounds and five assists a game,” said James.

After high school Jentry James plans to attend Oklahoma State University and would like to be remembered as someone that pushed the team to be better and as a likeable person.
