Eufaula’s AJ Taylor – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Sam Wampler’s Freedom Ford

Eufaula High School senior A.J. Taylor has never shied away from hard work. Whether he’s lining up in the trenches on Friday nights, competing in track or stepping onto the basketball court, Taylor embraces the challenges that come with being a multi-sport athlete. It’s an approach rooted in the lessons he learned long before high school.

His biggest influences have always been close to home.

“My parents,” Taylor said. “They taught me to keep pushing when life gets hard.”

That mindset has helped shape the way he approaches both athletics and everyday life. As an offensive tackle and defensive end, Taylor understands that success often comes from doing the difficult work that rarely draws attention. Every snap demands physical strength, technique and mental toughness, and he welcomes the responsibility that comes with playing on both sides of the line.

The commitment doesn’t end with football. Taylor also competes in track and basketball, giving him opportunities to develop as an athlete throughout the year while representing Eufaula in multiple sports.

For Taylor, though, the biggest reward isn’t found in statistics or individual recognition. It’s the relationships built along the way.

“They always have my back,” he said of his teammates.

That trust has helped define his experience with the Ironheads, creating an environment where players push each other while sharing in every success and setback. He credits head coach Larry Newton for helping establish that culture by challenging the team to improve every day.

Some of Taylor’s favorite memories came early in his career. He still remembers celebrating victories with teammates during his freshman season, moments that reinforced why he loves competing and being part of a team.

Away from athletics, Taylor enjoys spending time with friends and listening to music before games, a routine that helps him settle in before kickoff. In the classroom, science is his favorite subject, and he still remembers the impact of elementary teachers Mrs. Vancleave and Mrs. Skaggs, who encouraged his curiosity at an early age.

The biggest lesson football has taught him is one he expects to carry well beyond graduation.

“Never give up and keep pushing,” Taylor said.

As Taylor enters his senior season, that philosophy continues to define him. Whether competing across three sports, supporting his teammates or preparing for life after high school, he remains focused on improving each day and making the most of every opportunity.
