OUTLOOK

Kia Holmes is closing in on 20 years as the head of the softball program in Oktaha and in that time she has taken the Lady Tigers to the Class 2A state tournament three of the last five years including last fall when they made it to the semifinals with a 33-8 record and she was named the Small School Coach of the Year by the Oklahoma Fastpitch Coaches Association . She has a way of finding and developing talent in a small town with many of her players also excelling in basketball, which she also coaches. With the 2025 season not far off, Holmes is once again optimistic about her group of girls.

“We have a good mix of speed, power, pitching and defense and I think when we are on and playing well, we can compete with anyone. I anticipate another deep playoff run for us again this year,” said the veteran coach.

Back in the circle again this year for the Tigers will be Madison Capps who had an incredible 2024 campaign.

“Madison has gotten even better over the summer and has quietly turned herself into one of the best pitchers in the state,” said Holmes. “So far she is uncommitted, but she has some offers and will certainly be playing at the next level somewhere next year.”

The heart and soul of the Tigers is shortstop BrenLee Morgan who has committed to play at Southeastern State next year. “BrenLee led the team in batting average, on-base percentage and steals last year and I’m really excited to see how she does in her senior year,” said Holmes.

Another solid returner for Oktaha is third baseman Kardin Robinson. She’ll be a four-year starter and can also do some pitching if needed. Holmes will also look to Hadley Brannan and Tyann Stacy to be big contributors this coming season. “Hadley is a great teammate who gets along with everyone, though she is too hard on herself at times. She is highly involved in her church and with FCA at Oktaha, Tyann plays softball and basketball for us and is highly involved in FFA where she shows goats. She is one tough and disciplined kid,” said Holmes. Another young face that Holmes is excited about this season is Bella Flurry who the coach says is a scrappy youngster that can play just about any position.
