CHECOTAH LADY WILDCATS
Coach: Wes Cloud
Last Year: 13-13
When the Lady ‘Cats began their offseason preparations for the upcoming basketball season, coaches and players met day one for a “meet and greet” session.
“We’re replacing six seniors who were the bulk of the statistics from last year,” said head coach Wes Cloud. “That first day, I looked around the gym floor and thought maybe I should introduce myself because of the limited number of returning kids that make up our roster.”
Checotah’s lone returning starter is Shyanne Madewell (5-5, Sr. PG) who was a consistent double-digit scorer a year averaging 11.2 points per game connecting on 75-percent of her free throw chances in addition to securing 4.9 rebounds and 1.9 steals per game.
“She will be our leader as we develop a team concept,” said Cloud. Shyanne’s ability to fight and win the 50-50 loose ball opportunities is a plus.”
Logan Dowdy (5-6, Jr. G) and Nakia Carr (5-10, Jr. F) are two other players the Checotah coach expects to provide a positive impact to the game outcomes while nine incoming freshman must adjust to the faster pace and demands of the high school basketball competition.
