ABBY BOX

EUFAULA HIGH SCHOOL

An Ironhead through and through, sophomore Abby Box is the definition of a team player according to softball coach Ryan Green.

“She’s a hard worker and does anything we might ask of her and takes on any role we need her to play,” said Green. “She’s been in our program since sixth grade and was a contributor for us last season when we made it to the state tournament. She’ll play in the outfield for us and may also help us out in the circle some this spring. She’ll do whatever it takes to help the team from playing in the field, being a pinch runner or just cheering from the bench.”

Playing softball has been an up and down endeavor for Abby who also played basketball until she got into high school.

“I started playing softball young, first playing T-ball and then I stopped playing until I was about 10 and coach Green started a travel team that I played on and then stopped about again until I was in sixth grade.”

Abby says she had some key figures along the way that have been role models for her.

“I have two friends, Britton and Blayre Buckner, and a cousin, Lauren Kerns, who are the ones that really convinced to stay with softball after the sixth grade,” said Box who is in student council, National Hornor Society and has been a part of FFA in the past.

Making it to state last fall in fast pitch was obviously a big highlight for Abby.

“I think the highlight was playing against Valliant at their place in the super regionals. They were ranked (7th) and we were the underdogs, but we really came together as a team and beat them in the third and deciding game and went on to the state tournament.”

Abby hopes that as the Ironheads go into the slow pitch season, that team chemistry will continue and help the slow pitch squad achieve the same success as fast pitch.

In her spare time Abby likes to listen Christian music, work out at her dad’s gym and hang out with friends.
