Weleetka’s Jeffery Tiger – Baseball Spotlight – Presented by Mabrey Bank

Jeffery Tiger’s baseball journey didn’t begin with big dreams or college aspirations. It started with a simple game of catch. “Honestly, my dad and older brother—ever since I was little, we would go outside and play catch, and he would show me and my brother some pitches,” Tiger recalled. That backyard bonding turned into a passion, and now, as a senior at Weleetka High School, he’s one of the team’s key leaders.

As he enters his final season, Tiger understands the role he plays not just on the field, but off of it. “I have help the younger class that’s looking up to me and be a good role model for them,” he said. With experience comes responsibility, and he embraces the challenge of leading by example.

That leadership extends beyond just words—it’s in his work ethic. Tiger has put in countless hours to improve his game, especially when faced with struggles. “I was in a hitting slump and couldn’t get out of it, and after games, I would stay and just go through my steps on the hitting tee,” he explained. That determination paid off in a big way when he found his rhythm. “During our tournament, I went 15-for-15—I never done that before.” Moments like that fuel his drive for an even better season ahead.

Tiger’s goals for the year are clear. “My goal is to win more games than last year and have a better year than what we’ve been having, and my hopes are to go farther in districts.” He’s willing to put in the work to make that happen, including staying disciplined in his preparation. “I go lift weights and work out and really just try to drink water throughout the week and slow down on my eating—oh and start eating fruit.”

Beyond baseball, Tiger recognizes the support that fuels his team’s success. “Anything from the community is always great. We might be a small town, but the fans really show up and show out no matter what sport it is.”

With his final season ahead, Tiger isn’t just playing for himself—he’s playing for his teammates, his town, and the younger players who will follow in his footsteps.
