OKAY MUSTANGS
GIRLS
Coach: Levi Phillips
23-24 Record: 21-8
The upsurge is continuing for the Lady Mustangs of Okay as they enter the 2024 campaign. Coming off losing records in 2020 and 2021, Okay made it to 13-12 two years and accelerated to a 21-8-mark last season and a spot in the area tournament. They’ve got all five starters returning plus some experienced backups and so coach Levi Phillips has good reason to be optimistic about the upcoming year.
“With a balance of young and old, the Mustangs will be fun to watch this year. This team has a lot of grit and determination and with a balance of basketball IQ and skill, it should be a season we can make a deeper playoff run.”
Leading the way is VYPE TOP 100 pick Alex Collins (5-9, Sr.), the lone senior on the team, who averaged 18 points a game along with six rebounds in 2023.
“She has an amazing work ethic and joined the 1000-point club last year. She’s a solid defender, a big offensive threat and is an A student in the classroom,” said Phillips.
Starting point guard Jayden Berry (5-8, So.) is another returning starter that should spur the Mustangs on this season. She averaged 15 points and six assists a game her freshman year.
“Jayden is also an honor student who works extremely hard on her game and has a solid basketball IQ. She is very coachable and is a fierce competitor,” said Phillips.
Another young player that made a name for herself last year is Evie Spangler (5-9, So.) who added 12 points and six rebounds a game as a freshman. Rounding out the Mustang roster are Teagan James (5-8, Jr.) who averaged eight points and seven boards a game, Zoey Fulton (5-7, So.) who put in eight points a game and Addie Randall (5-9, So.) with a six point per game average in 2023.
With better than average size and talent and a lot of quality experience, it seems a sure bet that the Mustangs will continue their upward trajectory this year.
