Hilldale’s Ty Wilson – Basketball Spotlight – Presented by Economy Pharmacy

TY WILSON-HILLDALE

Growing up watching basketball with his mom who was an All-State player at Hilldale was how Ty Wilson, a 2024-25 senior fell in love with basketball and he’s optimistic about the upcoming season for the Hornets.

“I think we have a chance to have a really good year and make a deep playoff run and prove the doubters wrong,” said Wilson who also plays football and golf for the Hornets.”

And, in fact, football coach David Blevins is one of the people that Ty cited as having an impact on his time at Hilldale.

“He really worked with me a lot in football and was always real helpful in working around my basketball schedule particularly in the summer with my travel team.”

Basketball coach Hunter Harrison will be relying a lot on Wilson who averaged nearly 13 points and five rebounds a game last year.

“He’s our primary shooter,” said Harrison. “He has the ability to take over a game with his jump shot. He handles the ball well and often draws the other team’s best defender. He’s a great player but an even better kid who leads our team the right way. When things go wrong, we look to Ty to calm the storm and get us back on the right track.”

That leadership will be shared with a handful of seniors this year for the Hornets, but Ty has his own ideas on what to do.

“I think there has to be some positive and negative motivation because I think the negative makes them want to work harder to get better and then the positive feedback makes them feel like the time they’ve spent in the gym is paying off,” said Wilson.

Ty’s golf history started in the seventh grade.

“My dad suggested playing golf then so I would be good when I got older. We went to state my sophomore year, and I think we have a good chance to make it again this year.”

Back to basketball, Ty remembers a game last year against Catoosa where he had 23 points as one of his highlights and looking to this, his senior year, he would like to make all-district and All-State.

Ty hopes to play college ball somewhere next year and has had some conversations with Southwestern State and Colorado State-Pueblo.
