Poteau’s Emma Hackler – Softball Spotlight

For Emma Hackler, the softball field feels like a second home. As a junior at Poteau High School, she’s been dedicated to the game for as long as she can remember. “I’ve played softball since I was three years old,” Emma said, and her love for the sport has only grown stronger. Being part of the Poteau softball program is something she holds close, especially because of the support she receives from all corners. “It has helped me build relationships with some of my best friends and to have so much support from our teachers, coaches, and community.”

Her favorite place to play is the home field, where the excitement truly comes alive. “We have one of the best fields, and when we have big games, it’s such a fun atmosphere,” she explained. Emma’s passion for the game is matched by the influence of her dad, who has always been there to push her to be her best. “He’s always been there for me in everything I do.”

On the mound, Emma feels right where she belongs. “I am a pitcher and that is the position that I love to play the most.” But what she values just as much as her role is the camaraderie with her teammates. “What I love most about my teammates is no matter what happens, whether we win or lose, we always have fun.” Teammates like Keira Cox keep the team laughing, while others, like Gracie Spradley, provide a steady, serious presence.

This season has been about growth and resilience. “It has been such a fun year with everyone, and we all have grown as a team,” Emma said. She’s been especially impressed by Briley Bowman’s leadership and standout performances.

Favorite educators have also played a role in Emma’s journey: “My favorite teacher is Mrs. Sarah Fox because she truly cares about all her students and always seems like she wants to be there for us.”

Looking ahead, Emma’s future in softball is bright. “I’m planning on playing softball at the highest level. I’m blessed to have the opportunity to continue my softball career in college,” she said, with hopes of majoring in sports medicine.
