For Dally Engle, being a part of the Stigler High School softball team is more than just the game—it’s about the bond she’s built with her teammates. “Most of the team has been playing together since we were about four or five years old, and this is our last year together, which makes it even more special,” she shared. That connection is something that has shaped her senior year and fueled her passion for the sport.
Dally has been catching since she was young, a position that suits her well given her love for getting down in the dirt. “I definitely have the dirtiest uniform after every game just because I’m a catcher and can’t stay away from the dirt,” she laughed. Her competitive spirit and commitment to her role behind the plate are undeniable. But if she were to choose a different position? “I would probably like to play shortstop or center field,” she added, showing her versatility and interest in experiencing other roles on the field.
One of the things Dally cherishes most about her team is their ability to balance fun with a competitive edge. “I love that they are very competitive AND fun. They make playing softball even better,” she said. And there’s no shortage of energy in the dugout, especially with teammates like Rilee Williams, Caitlin Lovett and Payton Mecom, who Dally says are the loudest on the team. “Every single person on the team is loud in the dugout,” she noted, but those three stand out.
As for standout teammates, Dally has been particularly impressed with Cambry Cook this season. “She struggled a little at the beginning; now she’s doing amazing and working really hard,” Dally shared, acknowledging Cambry’s perseverance and growth. It’s clear that Dally not only values hard work but also admires the determination of those around her.
Educators have also played a role in Dally’s development as both a student and an athlete. “My favorite subject is any math, and my favorite teacher is Mrs. Kasey Parsons.”
After graduation, Dally’s love for the game will continue at the collegiate level. Reflecting on her journey, Dally is excited for what lies ahead, both in her academic pursuits and in continuing to play the sport she’s been dedicated to since she was three years old. “I plan to play softball at the University of Louisiana Monroe and get my degree in criminal justice,” she confirmed, ready for the next chapter.
