Eufaula’s Carson Luna – Football Spotlight – Presented by Sam Wampler’s Freedom Ford of Eufaula

CARSON LUNA

EUFAULA HIGH SCHOOL

“I could tell when he was in junior high that he might become of the better linemen we’ve had come through here,” said Eufaula head coach Larry Newton Jr. as he talked about senior Carson Luna. “He’s been a solid performer all four years and we’re lucky to have him and I’m super proud of him.”

A coach’s son, Luna naturally got into football when he was little and has developed into a talented two-way starter for the Ironheads.

“I like playing on offense more than defense because I love protecting my quarterback,” said Luna who also plays baseball for Eufaula.

A lot of what has shaped the football side of Carson Luna occurred in his freshman year.

“I really hadn’t looked up to anyone until my freshman year when I learned a lot from Ty Dodd who’s now playing at East Central University. We still communicate and he comes to our games when he can. That year we also went to the state semifinals and that was fun for me as freshman to be able to play with those guys that were older and bigger.”

The offensive line where Carson plays are kind of the forgotten heroes of football. They do a lot of the “dirty work”, while the skill players are the ones who get the glory. But Carson takes that all in stride.

“It honestly doesn’t bother me because I like my skill guys getting praise because they always come back and praise me because they know who’s putting in the work for them.”

Luna says he’ll always remember the rivalries that the Ironheads have had over the years with Vian and Checotah.

“Those games are so special. There’s such a great atmosphere with people just trying to take each other’s heads off. One of the games I remember is last year when we lost to Checotah after having beaten them for a number of years,”

Carson hopes to play at the next level and has an offer from Southeastern State and has had discussions with East Central and UCO.

In his senior season, Carson is hoping to see his team make the playoffs once again and in his spare time likes to hunt and play video games.
