Volleyball wasn’t something Nyveeaudica Cole grew up playing competitively. Instead, it started with family tournaments and didn’t become serious until her freshman year at Sequoyah High School. Having moved around a lot due to her parent’s military service, Sequoyah was the first place she felt a true sense of community. “Sequoyah is the first place I have stayed at consistently and the first community I have felt a part of,” Nyveeaudica explained.
Now a senior and a key leader on the team, Nyveeaudica plays as a starting middle. She embraces her role on the team with a sense of responsibility and leadership. “I think my specific role on the team is one of the leaders. I prepare for it by practicing and trying to encourage my teammates to have a good attitude,” she said. This leadership is important, especially after losing close relationships with seniors from previous years, a challenge she has overcome by connecting with younger teammates.
The team chemistry has grown stronger throughout the season. “Most of us played together last year,” she reflected, noting how they’ve become closer over time.
Her head coach, Zac Briscoe, is one of her biggest role models: “Not only has he helped me a lot in volleyball and on the court, but he has also helped me overcome emotions and be smart with my decisions.”
In terms of goals, Nyveeaudica remains focused on finishing the 2024 season strong. “I hope that we can finish the season strong and play the best we can with the time we have left,” she states. She trains hard, practicing every day for two to two and a half hours to be the best for her team.
Looking ahead, Nyveeaudica plans to attend college, potentially studying Marine Biology or Environmental Science, with hopes of continuing volleyball at the collegiate level. She offers simple yet powerful advice to younger athletes: “Never give up. Always try your hardest no matter how discouraged you get and push through it.”
With a strong support system and an inspiring coach, Nyveeaudica’s volleyball journey is one marked by resilience, leadership, and a deep appreciation for her teammates and community.
